Female carpet python was found just as its babies hatched
This was something of a treat for us, as we very rarely come across a female incubating their eggs and the hatchlings emerging at the same time. The client’s compost pile in Kenmore remained warm and humid enough to be attractive to foster a snake family. Our catcher relocated the mother python and the hatchlings and remaining eggs were kept for a few days before release.
Female Coastal Carpet Pythons incubate their eggs by coiling around them to keep them at an optimal temperature. Once hatched, snakes are totally independent and make their way out into the world, hopefully to one day reach a maximum adult size of around three metres!
