Here are some tips to keep your pets safe from pythons around the home

Carpet Pythons can grow to well in excess of two metres and so can consume large prey animals. They will eat a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles so we must be mindful of our treasured pets, particularly through the spring and summer months when snakes are most active and hungry. As you can see in this picture, pythons have an excellent sense of smell and will pursue rodents and birds intently.

  • Keep your pets indoors if possible, this will keep both snakes and pets safe
  • Animal cages for chickens and guinea pigs are best enclosed with fine bird mesh (holes of 5mm or smaller)
